Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board announces its Top Ontario Scholars for 2023-24
The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board's (Â鶹´«Ã½) top Ontario Scholar for the 2023-24 school year is Luke Sequeira from St. Francis Xavier Catholic Secondary School in Mississauga. Luke scored a perfect average of 100%. He is set to attend the University of Waterloo in the fall, where he has enrolled in the Computer Science program.
Â鶹´«Ã½'s top Ontario Scholar from a Brampton school is Megan Asquith from Notre Dame Catholic Secondary School, who graduated with an average of 99.3%. Megan has enrolled in Applied Science in Early Childhood Studies at the University of Guelph-Humber.
Sophia Sonsini from Robert F. Hall Catholic Secondary School is the top Ontario Scholar in the Bolton/Caledon/Orangeville area with a 98.8% average. Sophia will be studying Health Sciences at Queen's University.
"Congratulations to Luke, Megan and Sophia and all our Ontario Scholars for their remarkable achievements," said Marianne Mazzorato, Director of Education. "It takes tremendous dedication, focus and commitment on the part of these students to achieve this level of academic success. It is also a reflection of the support and guidance provided to them through their educators, parents and guardians, who inspired and encouraged them to prepare for post-secondary career pathways."
To be an Ontario Scholar, students must achieve an average of 80% or higher on their top six Grade 12 courses. This year, 3,933 Â鶹´«Ã½ graduates earned this distinction.
"This year, we recognize our 7,115 Â鶹´«Ã½ graduates who have fulfilled the Ontario Catholic School Graduate Expectations and are ready to take on a new journey outside the familiar walls of their schools," added Marianne Mazzorato. "We are extremely proud of each and every one of them and wish them success and God's richest blessing as they move on to the next chapter in their lives."
